Can I apply for a Zip account if I have a bad credit history?

If you have a bad credit history or issues on your credit file, such as past defaults or bankruptcies, we recommend you do not apply for a Zip account, as your application is unlikely to be approved.

For more information relating to your credit history or the details held on your credit file, please contact Equifax directly. In the meantime, here are a few tips on how to strengthen your credit applications for the future:

Consolidate and reduce your debt as much as possible

Aim to reduce the number of personal loans and credit cards you have; avoid unnecessarily high credit card limits or short term high interest loans.

Manage your money on a regular basis

Get an understanding of your spending by using a budgeting and money management tool like Pocketbook. Pocketbook automatically organises your spending into categories like clothing, groceries and fuel – giving you visibility of how your money is spent and how you can save.
